Perspectives

Letitia is a senior in high school in Richmond, Virginia. She is currently participating in the Hilton Hospitality Partnership Program (HHPP). This is a transition pilot program between the Hilton Hotel-Airport and the Henrico County School System. The program is being facilitated by Virginia Commonwealth University through a grant funded demonstration program (Project CORPS). This partnership was created in order to assist students with disabilities in exploration and training for hospitality careers.

Currently, Letitia trains two days a week for a total of three and a half-hours in the laundry department. Her job is to wash and fold bed linens and towels. "My favorite thing to do is fold pillow cases" reports Letitia. She says the hardest part of her job is using the washing machine, "it has a bunch of different buttons and you have to enter the weight of the load." Letitia says that since she has been working at the Hilton, her grades have improved and she is much happier. Through the Hilton Hospitality Partnership Program, she will have the opportunity to apply for a full time position when she graduates from high school next month. According to her supervisor, Letitia is on the right path to full time employment with the Hilton.
