“ADA EMPLOYMENT PROVISIONS:  BEYOND THE BASICS”

The Americans with Disabilities Act:

• Is it working as Congress intended?
• Has it been strengthened or weakened by the Supreme Court?
• How have employers and Americans with Disabilities fared under ADA?
• Have media portrayals been accurate?

Do you think the ADA has played out? 

Think again.  By the time we convene in Richmond this June, the Supreme Court will have ruled on these new issues: 

• Does an impairment that interferes with a work assignment constitute a disability?
• Can the EEOC pursue damages for an employee who was bound by an arbitration agreement?
• Can employers refuse to hire applicants whose impairments endanger their own health?
• Can reassignment to a vacant position be trumped by a seniority agreement?
• Can punitive damages be assessed against states and municipalities?

• Revealing research regarding the “behavior” of ADA as a civil rights statute.
• Sources of information and technical support to maintain your expertise

REGISTRATION: 

VCU Students may register for RHAB 683-001 (3 graduate credits). 

This course is unrestricted; it is open to all majors.
