Laura Coffey Richardson is a technical Assistance Liaison with Virginia Commonwealth University’s SSA-funded National Training Center. In this role, she provides training related to SSA work incentives and employment supports to Work Incentives Counselors and Community Partners nationally. Laura also provides intensive technical assistance in multiple SSA federal regions. In addition, she also is the primary trainer and technical assistance liaison for the Ticket to Work Helpline agents who provide work incentives information and referral services to beneficiaries.

Ms. Richardson also has extensive experience in employment services for people with disabilities. She has created and managed a number of highly successful programs including: employment services for under-served, disadvantaged and disabled populations; Social Security benefits counseling; and entrepreneurship development for individuals with disabilities. She has also provided services as an independent consultant on a variety of disability and employment issues. Laura is also a Certified Business Technical Assistance and Consultation provider with the Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. In this capacity, Laura works directly with individuals who are interested in pursuing self employment. This process begins with discovery and ends with a completed business plan and comprehensive financial projections.

Ms. Richardson also served as an active board member and Membership Chair of NABWIS – National Association of Benefits and Work Incentives Specialists for 5 years. Prior to entering the disability and employment arena, Laura had 15 years of management and operational expertise in the private sector, including eight years of retail operations at various Marriott hotels and resorts. Laura is a graduate of East Carolina University.
