Transition to Work for Individuals with Autism - April 25, 2016 - This course provides participants an understanding of the issues, challenges, and strategies that are involved with helping youth with autism transition to work and participate to the fullest degree in society. Details

Supported Employment Web-Based Certificate Series ACRE Certified - May 2, 2016 - This course provides an extensive overview of supported employment and how to facilitate competitive jobs for individuals with significant disabilities. Topics include: federal policy; customer profile; job development; working with employers; job-site strategies; support plans; and alternative funding. Details

Job Development - May 23, 2016 - Job development is the "process of locating and creating work opportunities for individuals with disabilities". This is achieved by earning an opportunity to engage an employer and from there hopefully moving on to earning a commitment to meet, interview, and hire a specific job seeker. Details

Supported Employment for Individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) - May 30, 2016 - This course offers participants an overview of TBI and the supported employment specific strategies to use to get to know the job seeker, look at possible workplace supports with an emphasis on compensatory memory strategies and some insight into ways to provide pro-active job retention services. Fast Fact: 2014 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Title IV: Amendments to the Rehabilitation Act

CTI Fast Fact On July 22, 2014, President Obama signed into law the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). This new law replaces the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) and amends the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Most of the provisions of WIOA took effect on July 1, 2015. These recent changes represent a commitment to providing supports to workforce development for economic growth and are aimed at
increasing opportunities for individuals facing barriers to employment. The Commonwealth of Virginia has responded to WIOA with state legislation. In March of 2015, the Virginia legislature passed House Bill (HB) 1986 and Senate Bill (SB) 1372, both of which support WIOA at the state level. Read the Fast Fact
