Bio:

Lori Briel has extensive experience providing career services to individuals with disabilities. She has coordinated numerous employment related demonstration projects for people with significant disabilities, at risk youth and students with disabilities in higher education. She and her colleagues developed a comprehensive academic and career planning model for college students with disabilities that is student directed, maximizes the use of community and college resources, and provides ample opportunities for employment related experiences. Most recently, she coordinated a business mentoring program and also collaborated on the design of a user friendly website to build self determination skills in high school students with disabilities who are pursing college, www.going-to-college.org.

Lori has conducted trainings for faculty, career center personnel, field placement supervisors, and students regarding disability awareness, the Americans with Disabilities Act, how to handle disclosures, accommodations, and the use of technology. Her research interests include transition from college to employment, internship supports, and staff development. She has presented internationally and co-authored several journal articles and book chapters in these areas.

Lori Briel received her Bachelors degree in music therapy from the State University of New York at Fredonia and her Masters degree in education with a concentration in supported employment from Virginia Commonwealth University.
