Thomas began looking for a job in the summer of 1996. He has significant
Cerebral Palsy and uses an electric wheelchair for mobility. Thomas was
interested in finding a position where he could utilize his organization
skills. He also wanted to work for a large company where he could meet a
lot of new people. With the help of a local supported employment agency,
Thomas found a position at Alfa Laval Thermal in Richmond, Virginia. They
were in need of an individual to assemble sales binders for their sales
representatives to distribute to customers. Thomas interviewed for the
position and landed the job.
September will mark Thomas' third anniversary with the company. He states
that he loves his job with Alfa Laval Thermal.
"I like my coworkers. They joke around with me all the time. Alfa
Laval has a lot of company activities that I enjoy participating in as
well."
Thomas says that his job has made him much happier and more independent.
As a result of working, he was able to move into an apartment and live
independently. Thomas is quite proud of accomplishing this goal.
