Describes the Consumer Initiated Approach to Supported Employment, a 3 year federally funded demonstration project designed to maximize consumer choice and participation in the supported employment process. Key model components include:
- consumer led assessment,
- consumer driven job selection,
- individualized vocational supports,
- customized job retention services
This article describes each component, offers suggestions for employment specialists, and highlights outcomes for the 48 project participants with severe traumatic brain injury and/or physical disability who gained competitive employment.
