In 1981, DuPont identified 2,745 employees
with disabilities. With greater emphasis placed on recruiting people with
disabilities, we estimate that number has increased to more than 3,000
since that time.
However, the sampling of DuPont supervisors
who responded to the 1990 survey identified 811 employees with
disabilities out of 17,504 for whom accommodations were made.
Although this is not the total number of employees with disabilities at
DuPont, this representative sampling enables us to determine the variety
of disabilities with which our employees are challenged.
Of the 811 employees who were identified by
their supervisors in the 1990 survey, 33% had disabilities when they were
hired. Veterans with military service injuries account for 3% of our
employees with disabilities. A further breakdown of these numbers shows
that 55% of our employees with disabilities are hourly employees, 28% are
technicians and clerical employees, and 17% are management and
professional employees.
