Overview of Benefits Programs for Veterans with Disabilities

This presentation provides and overview of the various benefits programs available to Veterans with disabilities. Included in the discussion will be:VA Disability Compensation, VA Disability Pension, Social Security Disability Insurance, and Supplemental Security income. Additionally, information will be provided on VA services available through the One-Stop Centers, and the Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment Service as well as on state Vocational Rehabilitation programs. The impact of wage or self-employment income on cash and health benefits will be discussed and tools and guidelines for how to maximize all available resources will be provided.

Substance Abuse and Employment of Homeless Veterans

This presentation will focus on substance abuse. The presenters will begin by discussing the prevalence of unemployed homeless veterans and the co-occurrence of mental health issues including TBI, SUD, and PTSD. Next, strategies and techniques in working with employers and homeless veterans in helping them find and retain employment will be provided. In closing information about training and motivational techniques for administrators to use when supervising and motivating their employees to assist homeless veterans find employment will be offered.

Using Military Benefits to Prevent Homelessness in Women Veterans and their Families

This webcast will discuss multiple issues surrounding homeless women Veterans and their families. Women who have served in the military are up to four times as likely to become homeless than women who have not served in the Armed Forces. This webcast will address employment barriers, legal issues, unique health issues, services available to women Veterans, and benefit programs. The presenter, Amy Davis with VCU-RRTC, will share her experiences in working with women Veterans and provide examples of how homeless women Veterans can embark on their own journey to success.
