The Virginia Board for People with Disabilities awarded an 18 month replication grant to Virginia Commonwealth University's RRTC. The Virginia Board was interested in replicating the successful employment model developed with Manpower in Richmond, VA.

This webcast will discuss the replication efforts of this model with two staffing companies in Virginia. You will hear information about the project objectives, relationships, challenges, success stories, and the desire to continue the collaboration.

Katie Thompson, Training Associate and Staffing Consultant at VCU-RRTC along with representatives from Kelly Services and Manpower will discuss the project activities. You will learn the importance of building relationships and how these relationships can "pay off" for the employment of people with disabilities.

Susie Rutkowski from Cincinnati, Ohio works at Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development, which is a career/technical high school and adult education facility. She also is the co-director of Project SEARCH at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Project SEARCH was awarded the 2004 New Freedom Initiative Award from the Department of Labor. This award recognizes businesses and people that have demonstrated exemplary and innovative efforts in furthering the employment and workplace environment for people with disabilities. In this seminar, Ms. Rutkowski discusses the following:

  • How Project SEARCH got started?
  • How they have met the needs of individual job seekers?
  • What kind of jobs they have for individuals with a more significant disability?
  • How they recommend that other hospitals or businesses get started?
