Partnership with Staffing Companies

Presenter: Millie Hewett- Manpower

While many people with disabilities and community rehabilitation providers (CRP) struggle to find jobs and develop strong relationships with businesses, supplemental staffing companies, such as MANPOWER, are becoming an important resource for linking qualified people with disabilities to full time work. Millie Hewett focuses on a successful partnership between MANPOWER and local rehabilitation agencies. Ms Hewett shares ideas to develop relationships with staffing companies as well as discuss the myths and misconceptions about the supplemental staffing industry.

Millie Hewett is the Richmond Virginia Area Sales manager for MANPOWER, Inc. In addition she sits on the Virginia Business Leadership Network Steering Committee. During her 8 years in Richmond, she has been able to utilize her experience for securing employment opportunities for “diverse populations.” Millie has been an active member of the VCU-RRTC Charter Business Roundtable since 1998. Manpower, Inc was presented with a Disability Friendly Award in 2002 by the Honorable John Hager, former Lt Governor of Virginia. Original Date: September 11, 2003
Webcast live from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Research that builds the business case for hiring people with disabilities is often difficult to access and hard to understand. Making the Case: The Nuts and Bolts of Hiring People with Disabilities responds to the questions employers have once they make the decision to recruit, hire, and retain workers with disabilities. Business representatives from a large regional children's medical center and a rural, mid-sized electronics manufacturing business discuss their experiences in successfully recruiting workers from the disability community. Also as part of the panel, a chamber representative addresses how chambers can help their business members connect with community resources, and a community-based service provider will discuss the power of partnerships among community stakeholders that are working to solve the problem of staffing shortages.
